The Plane that landed in the Racecourse

The Mexican Gulfstream 2(XA-FOU)that landed in the racecourse has since Crashed Killing everyone on board.

However the pilot that landed the plane in mallow was Forced to resign and it was a different pilot at the control's.

I have seen the accident report and it turns out it crashed into an electrical pilon in heavy fog on approach to a airfield in Houstan Texas. 22-11-2004 is the Report date on the NTSB Cert.

TV news report about the emergency landing and eventual take off from Mallow Race Course Co. Cork in the summer of 1983 is to be seen in the 1983 Reeling in the Years (repeated now and then on rte)
The pilot, Reuben Ocana, became a local celebrity during the 5 week stay before a 3000ft runway was built!

I'm showing my age now - but I was in the cockpit of the plane. My mate's dad was an attending detective and he let me in under duress Smile

Sad to say 1983 was my final year in Ireland........left 2 Feb 1984
So in my case the real details are missing......couple of bad sectors on the old hard drive and maybe too much reformatting....

Mallow........the place where it all happened.....it really did didn't it......
......and I guess it still does.......
